Paul Revere And The Raiders were created in the year 1960 in Boise, Idaho, United States. The band has gone through various changes in their roster over the years, and currently they have Darren Dowler on the lead vocals, Doug Heath on the lead guitars, Ron Foos on the bass guitar, Danny Krause on the keyboards, and Tommy Scheckel on the drums. The group recorded their first single and named it Beatnick Sticks. It never charted, but gained them a considerable amount of interest from the local audience, who seemed to love the song. Following that, they released another single titled Paul Revere's Ride, which also became popular with the local audience. The band then went on to release Like Long Hair, which became an instantaneous hit and peaked at the Top Forty charts soon after its release. The group was signed to one of the most prestigious recording companies of the United States, Columbia Records, with which they releases various hit albums and singles.
Perhaps one of their most successful songs the band has ever produced has been Louie, Louie, which got them signed to Columbia Records, and went on to become extremely popular with the masses. The band's unique sound and wildly exciting live performances suggested that they would do well on television, and hence in the year 1966, they were offered to be the house band on one of the most popular shows of American television of the time,Dick Clark's Where the Action Is. The show earned them huge exposure and a large amount of fan following. In the year 1968 and 1969, the band also starred in another one of Dick Clark's productions, Happening. Moreover, the Raiders were called on numerous other television shows as well, and they made appearances on shows hosted by the Smothers Brothers, Johnny Carson, Ed Sullivan and many others as well, along with various specials. All through the 1960s and 70s, Paul Revere And The Raiders were the most televised band of the United States, performing in hundreds of shows.
The band went on to work on their music meanwhile, releasing hit singles and albums. They issued Here They Come in the year 1965, which became highly successful with the audience. In the same year, they released a single called Stepping Out. This turned instantly popular, reaching the American Top Fifty. The song's follow-up, Just Like Me, became even more successful, peaking in the American Top Twenty.
