The Formation of Issues

Issues is a band that came together when vocalists Tyler Carter and Michael Bohn split from their old group, Woe, Is Me in 2012. Initially, the project also included former Woe, Is Me members Cory and Ben Ferris. However, they were soon dropped since they were unable to be present for recording sessions.

Their debut EP, Black Diamonds, was recorded with vocalists as well as Skyler Accord playing bass, and his brother Tyler Accord playing keyboards and turntables.

After they released their first EP, Issues went on tour with Attila as a supporting act on the 'Party with the Devil Tour,' which also featured Make Me Famous, Ice Nine Kills and , Woe, Is Me. That same year, Issues was featured on the popular Punk Goes Pop 5 compilation album with a cover of the song ‘Boyfriend’ by Justin Bieber.

First Album & Touring

2013 was an eventful year for the band. They released their first stand-alone single titled ‘Hooligans’ which was accompanied by a music video, another first for the band. That same year, their original drummer Case Snedecor decided to leave the band due to music differences. He was replaced shortly afterwards by Josh Manuel.

Issues participated in their first Vans Warped Tour in 2013 as well.

In 2014 the band re-released their original EP ‘Black Diamonds’ with acoustic versions of all the songs. They also contributed to the “Punk Goes Christmas” album with the song “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”, an N’Sync cover.

In the spring they joined Of Mice & Men and Beartooth on their UK headlining tour as an opening act. It was a good year for touring for the band as they also joined hardcore giants Bring Me The Horizon and Of Mice & Men on the “American Dream Tour.” It was also announced that this year they would play the entirety of the Vans Warped Tour.

Their debut self-titled album was released on February 18, 2014. At the same time it was announced that they would be playing the huge Reading & Leads Festivals that year.

In the fall and winter of that year, Issues were a supporting act for the Wembley Arena performance in London. They opened for Bring Me The Horizon, Young Guns, and Sleepwave.

They also had their first American headlining tour called the "Journeys Noise: Thanks for the Invite" tour which featured other bands such as I Killed The Prom Queen, Ghost Town, Marmozets and Nightmares.

Influences and Music Style

The music style of Issues has been described as nu-metal, which is a blend of metal, R&B, and pop influences. In the words of AllMusic, what Issues really is, is ‘new nu metal.’ The band has been cited as saying that what they set out to accomplish was a blend of metal with Top 40’s music.

Among the band’s vast array of music influences are Linkin Park, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Jackson 5, Cradle of Filth, Stevie Wonder, Kesha, Blink-182, Sum 41, Impending Doom, Parkway Drive and Fatboy Slim.
