About
Ben Folds
Born with the real name of Benjamin Scott Folds in Winston – Salem, North Carolina on September 12, 1966 and popularly known by his stage name Ben Folds, the American song writer, singer and multi instrumentalist was once the front man of Ben Folds Five, an alternative rock band. He is now famous for his solo performances as well as collaborations with other artists.
The history of his association with music dates back to his early childhood, when he started playing piano when he was only nine. His father who was a carpenter by profession supported his passion for music and brought him a piano that he got as a barter trade from one of his customers. Ben Folds early musical influences especially during his teenage years were Elton John and Billy Joel, the renowned musicians who are considered as maestros of this art for a long time. His passion for music pushed him to participate in activities related to music during his school years, and he earned some recognition as a bassist, pianist and a drummer while studying at R.J. Reynolds High School, in the state of Winston, North Carolina. He also remained associated with some of the local bands during those days.
Majosha was the name of first band Ben formed, along with his friend Millard Powers in 1980s. The band performed at local venues, and even released an EP titled Party Night: Five Songs about Jesus. The EP sold well, providing the band some recognition in the local community. The band continued to perform together till early 1990s before breaking up.
Ben Folds collaborated with many musicians and friends and performed in bands that eventually broke up before he finally formed Ben Folds Five in 1995. By that time he had attended Frost School of Music by University of Miami but could not complete his degree as he dropped only one credit short before his graduation. He founded his own group after collaboration with Darren Jessee on drums and Robert Sledge on percussion with the name of Ben Folds Five at Chapel Hill.
The newly formed band released its debut album the next year with the title Ben Folds Five. The first album had a good response from public, and encouraged them to sing together further, releasing Whatever and Ever Amen in 1997, and Naked Baby Photos in 1998. The band came up with their last album in 1999 titled The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner before disbanding.
After being detached from Ben Folds Five, Ben has been following a successful solo career. He has released many LPs and EPs as well as some studio albums. He has also been collaborating with other artists in his tours, including Weird Al Yankovic and John McCrea. One of his songs titled Rockin’ the Suburbs received great critical and commercial acclamation for its unique music and Ben’s beautiful singing style. The album with the same name also proved to be a great commercial success for him.
Ben’s tours promoting his albums and songs have always been a great source of attraction for his fans. His singing style and musical abilities attract thousands of music lovers to his concerts, and it is not uncommon for him to receive great applause for his mind blowing performances. Many of his songs are also featured on YouTube and MySpace, and this relatively newer source of publicity is working great for this seasoned singer. For all the people who love music, Ben Folds Tickets are the ultimate source of entertainment and a great way to make your evening memorable!
