About Alabama Shakes Fly Golden Eagle

Established around 2009, the band came into existence when Zac Cockrell and Brittney Howard started meeting after school to practice music. Both Zac and Brittany were attending the 'East Limestone High School' at the time. They settled on roots rock after trying their hands on several genres including progressive rock. After writing some material, they requested Steve Johnson to join the band as their drummer. Steve was working at a local music store prior to joining the band. Initially dubbed as only 'The Shakes', the three member band started recording their songs at the Decatur based studio. Impressed by the group's demo, Heath Fogg joined the group as a guitarist and the Shakes started producing music. Apart from recording original material, the group also worked on covers songs by the bands such as 'AC/DC', 'Otis Redding', 'James Brown' and 'Led Zeppelin'. They were invited at a local music concert where they performed these covers under a forty-five minute set. It was before this concert that the band renamed itself, adding Alabama in order to avoid same-name conflict with other bands.
In 2011, the band released their EP "Alabama Shakes". The EP drew widespread media attention especially on the internet. Songs such as "You Ain't Alone", "On Your Way", "I Found You" and "Hold On" managed to put the Shakes into the spotlight. The band was invited to play at the famous CMJ music festival, where the group managed to sway the crowd with their live performance. They caught the attention of renowned music critic "Jon Pareles" who praised the band's energy and magical sound. During the same year, the Shakes made it to the list of MTV's "11 Artists to Watch in 2012". All the media coverage brought the Shakes in the limelight, allowing the group to mesmerize the audiences at respectable music concerts and festivals around the country.  In 2012, the band finally released their debut studio album "Boys & Girls".
