About Project Trio

The trio met in 1996 while studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Seymour and Stephenson came up with the idea to form a classical chamber music group that is different from conventional classical and carries elements of jazz and rock. With Pattillo joining in, the ensemble became complete and together the three band mates began performing in schools and other venues. In 2007, Pattillo uploaded a video on YouTube which earned him immense recognition and appreciation for his distinct blend of flute and beat box.  Seymour, who at that point of time was playing for the Cleveland Orchestra, soon moved to New York to join Pattillo and Stephenson. The trio recorded their debut album in Pittsburgh by the name of Winter in June, following which they set off for their first musical tour to Dallas, Detroit and Boulder. The band released their next couple of albums by the name of Brooklyn (2009) and Project Trio (2010).
Apart from the aforementioned albums, Project Trio’s fourth album When Will Then Be Now was released in 2012. The same year, the group came up with their catalog-spanning Random Roads Collection that was released by a record label called Tummy Touch Records. Random Roads Collection instantly made its way up on the charts of Billboard’s US and Canadian classical music charts while simultaneously debuting on number seventeen on the jazz chart by Trade magazine.
In several of their musical endeavors, the trio rearranged and remixed music pieces by renowned names by Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington and Guns n’ Roses. Their record Project Trio consisted of reinterpretation and rearrangement of Guns N Roses’ number Sweet Child O’ Mine as well as Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk. Project Trio is actively involved in providing music education to the younger generation. Together they have performed at school assemblies and led workshops for more than hundred thousand students around the world. The curriculums are designed to meet national standards of music education. The educational program is devised starting from the elementary level, through college to the master’s level.
As part of a three year residency, Project Trio took the live stage for the first time with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra for Family Concert Artists in Residence. In 2012 they also performed with the Charlotte Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, Britt Festival and toured to Germany, France, Canada and Austria. They were also chosen for the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and American Voice’s joint venture of 2012-13 season of American Music Abroad. The purpose of this venture was to showcase American music via concerts, classes, workshops and jam sessions with other local musicians and media channels throughout the former Soviet Union.
Starting off with their landmark first video on YouTube, Project Trio is today one of the most viewed chamber music ensembles on internet. They have been praised by Downbeat Magazine as ‘packed with musicianship, joy and surprise’, while Wall Street Journal has described their music as having a’ wide appeal, subversive humor and first rate playing’.
