Grace Potter Tickets

Charleston City Paper, while commenting on one of Grace Potter’s performances, had this to say: "It is rare to see a performer with such power over a crowd. She captured and held everyone’s attention all night with every lusty howl, every devastating smile, every sway of the hips drawing us closer until nothing existed but her and the anticipation of what she might do next." Potter is a lead singer of an American rock band, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, which sings folk, blues, roots and hard rock. The band, in addition to Potter, presently consists of Matt Burr (drums), Scott Tournet (guitar, including slide guitar), Catherine Popper (bass guitar and vocals) and Benny Yurco (electric guitar and vocals). Potter herself plays almost everything; Hammond B3, electric and acoustic guitars, Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer Electric Piano.

About Grace Potter

Potter, who was born in Vermont, was studying theatre at St. Lawrence University, when Burr, who was to later become her band’s drummer, heard her sing at a student-run open-mike evening in 2002, called "The Java Barn." He asked her to form a band with him. She refused. She later decided otherwise, when her high-school friend and a bass player, Courtright Beard, joined her at the University. The trio started to write and perform jazz music. The fourth member of the band was Tournet. The band of four had by this time started to call them, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, due to their late night practice sessions. They had also decided to make music their professional career. In 2003, the band after Burr’s graduation, moved back to Vermont.

In 2004, Potter’s solo album Original Soul was released. This album made her an instant success amongst her fans. The album also had the critics raving with comparisons made with famous singers like Bonnie Raitt and Norah Jones.
The commitment of the band with purity of music could be gauged from the fact that they turned down major record label deals, which had started to come their way. They instead relied on direct contact with their fans through extensive touring schedules and performances at various music festivals. The band had already become a force to reckon with when they self-released their debut album.
Nothing But the Water came out in 2005. Shortly after they signed with famous Hollywood Records. During the same year, the band was nominated in two categories of the Boston Music Awards, where they also performed. In 2006, again the band was nominated in two more categories of the Boston Music Awards. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals also won the Jammy Award for "Best New Groove." Potter also performed at the same event with Joe Satriani, Reed Mathis, Steve Kimock, Stephen Perkins and Willy Waldman, and got a standing ovation for her performance.

This is Somewhere was their second album, which was released in 2007. One of the single’s from the album, "Apologies", featured on One Tree Hill, Kyle XY, Brothers & Sisters, and All My Children. "Falling or Flying", another single from the same album, featured on Grey’s Anatomy and ER. In the same year, the band due to its ever increasing popularity made their first television appearance on Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show. They also appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America and on Craig Ferguson’s The Late Late Show. In 2008, they opened for the very famous Dave Matthew’s Band for three performances.

It also reached no. 2 on iTunes Rock Albums Chart. The band in 2010 also appeared on Alice in Wonderland’s companion soundtrack, "Almost Alice". They also performed at The Hangout Music Festival, which was held in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The same year, Potter was also honored by her home state of Vermont when Lake Champlain Chocolates, Vermont based specialty chocolate makers made a new chocolate bar called Grace Under Fire.
