About Voodoo Experience

The first ever Voodoo was held on the Halloween weekend in 1999 at the Tad Gormley Stadium. It kept moving between the week before or after Halloween for some years, returning to its initial Halloween weekend time back in 2009 and settling for it. The mastermind behind Voodoo was the CEO of Rehage Entertainment, Steve Rehage, who planned and executed the whole thing. The festival had quite a humble beginning; it was a one day event with an attendance of a mere 8000 people. The following year, it expanded to a two day event and featured Eminem among its lineup. They say it’s the appearance of Eminem in the festival that brought it to people’s attention. It was turned into a three-day event in 2006 having six stages divided in three areas namely; Le Carnival (featuring circus acts and indie bands), Le Flambeau (featuring sounds from the hometown) and Le Ritual (featuring the mainstream acts and bands). Because of its remarkable progress over the years bringing the best names in the industry on its ground and millions of fans, Voodoo received the nomination for Pollstar’s Music Festival of the Year twice. The 2007’s festival proved to be a breakthrough event with a record attendance of over 100,000 people, a count that continues with every passing year.
In its decade-plus existence, Voodoo has had 450 artists coming to perform here and a million fans taking away wonderful memories of the time spent here and that’s what it’s internationally famous for. The 2011 edition of the Voodoo Fest featured Snoop Dogg, Fatboy Slim, Soundgarden and Blink-182 while artists and bands from the previous festivals included Ozzy Osbourne, Deadmau5, Muse, Florence & The Machine, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, R.E.M, Lil Wayne, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day and John Mayer to name just a few. The lineup of the festival alone is enough to bring masses of fans rush to the New Orleans City Park as it has a reputation of bringing every great name in the industry to its stage. Moreover, the festival also features local musicians and bands from Louisiana to keep a taste of its home venue alive for people coming to attend it from other places.
