About The Mavericks

Led by the vocalist and songwriter Raul Malo, The Mavericks were formed during the late 80s in Florida. The singer and his friend, bassist Robert Reynolds had been associated with various music groups during their high school days. Both were fond of listening to numbers by the likes of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams. Upon realizing their similar taste for music, the duo decided to form their own band.  Robert then persuaded his friend and drummer Paul Deakin to join the budding country music group.
Taking on the name ‘The Mavericks’, the trio started their career as a local rock club band in Florida. Becoming a part of the existing punk and alternative music scene, the musicians frequently played along the same line as the other emerging acts such as Marilyn Manson. In the fall of 1990, The Mavericks produced an independent record which quickly worked its way onto the playlists across Florida to Nashville where they began receiving several record offers from the well known labels.
When the group performed a gig after relocating to Nashville, representatives of prominent record labels were present in the crowd. The band ended up signing a contract with MCA Records. Their first professional debut record was released the following year titled ‘From hell to Paradise’. The album largely consists of original songs composed by Malo. Additionally it presents a cover song of Hank Williams, ‘Hey Good Lookin’ which turned out to be quite a hit. The collection also received huge praise and appreciation by the music critics.
On the commercial front, the country band made a strong impression with their second album ‘What a Crying Shame’. The compositions depict a more focused and cohesive approach on the part of the musicians. The record produced four top 40 hits including ‘There Goes My Heart’, ‘I Should Have Been True’ and the famous title track called ‘O What a Thrill’. Another single which was a cover of ‘All That Heaven Will Allow’ by Bruce Springsteen reached 49th spot on the charts. The record was eventually declared Platinum in the spring of 1995.
The Mavericks came up with their third music album under MCA Records in 1995. This was named ‘Music For All Occasions’. Met with a positive response both commercially and critically, the album was certified Gold a year after the release. The band produced a unique blend of Latin and pop music styles in the form of their next record ‘Trampoline’. The lead single ‘Dance The Night Away’ in particular proved to be one of the group’s biggest hits in the United Kingdom.
Parting ways after nearly a decade, the band members reunited again for the 2011 digital EP ‘Suited Up and Ready’ and the singe called ‘Born to Be Blue’. Their recent album ‘In Time’ has just hit the shelves and includes a collection of astounding numbers.  Known for their matchless sense of music aesthetics, The Mavericks are again welcomed by critics and commercial audiences with open hearts. The album made it to the top 10 of country charts and is among the top 40 on the US Billboard album chart. They are back again with their electrifying eclectic beats of country and rock and roll.
