About Lyle Lovett

Lyle Lovett was born on 1st November, 1957 in Klein, Texas. He started his love affair with music when he went to attend the A&M University in the 1970’s. That was the time he first started writing tracks and began to perform at various festivals locally in and around Texas. He then went to Germany as a graduate student and continued his passion for performing and writing songs. He came back to America in the early part of the 1980’s and that is when he first started to take up music as a profession. He started to perform at clubs around Texas on his return. In 1983, he earned a place on Bill: On His Own. Lyle Lovett got his first taste of the music world when he sang on Nanci Griffith’s album Once in a Very Blue Moon in 1984. The legendary Guy Clarke somehow got his hands on Lyle’s demo tape and forwarded it to the MCS Records. The label was so impressed by what they heard that they signed Lyle in 1986.
Lyle Lovett released his self-titled debut album later that year. The album turned out to be a huge hit that received a lot of positive acclaim from fans and critics alike for its efforts. Songs like Give Back My Heart, Cowboy Man and Why I Don’t Know all made it to prominent positions on charts and announced Lyle’s arrival onto the stage in style. Even though the album was based on country music, he didn’t want himself to be restricted particularly to one particular genre. He fused country music with folk, pop and jazz to come out with a sound different from the ones masses were used to hearing from either of these genres. His next album Pontiac showed the diversity and strength of Lyle Lovett’s music. The album received a lot and enhanced his popularity among fans of rock and pop. His next album was titled Lyle Lovett and His Large Band and it hit the music stores on 25th January, 1989. It became an instant hit as soon as it came out to earn gold certification. Lyle Lovett also won a Grammy for the album.
Lyle then re-located to California and released his next epic in the year 1992 which was titled Joshua Judges Ruth. The album became an even bigger hit than it predecessor and went on to do well in multiple countries. Lyle then teamed up with Al Green to sing the duet Funny How Time Slips Away and won another Grammy for it. In 1994, he won his third Grammy and his second in consecutive years for Blues for Dixie. He moved back to Los Angeles once again and started to explore other entertainment avenues. It wasn’t until 1994 that he came out with his next album I Love Everybody that went on to get positive reviews. Lyle’s next album was The Road to Ensenada and it became a rage as soon as it was released. The album went straight to the top of the country music charts and brought his way his fourth Grammy award.
The fact Lyle Lovett has been such a major force in the industry for so long is a testament to his incredible talents. His impressive haul of four Grammys and countless other awards and accolades put him amongst the elite company of the most diverse performers of his era.
