About Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle saw ‘The Cosby Show’ and got so impressed by the comedian Bill Cosby that he decided to pursue a career in comedy himself. He started performing at the age of fourteen. Because he was underage, sometimes his mother also had to accompany him to clubs as a legal guardian. Even at that young age, Dave had a bold and controversial comedy style and had to face challenges because of that.

By the turn of nineties Dave had already started garnering accolades and praise for his knack of comedy. He started his professional career by making his film debut in Mel Brook’s “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”, in 1993. The following year, he also became the youngest comedian to star on the HBO special “Comic Relief”. By the time he was eighteen, Dave had also made his television debut as a comedian. He continued to act in films as well and appeared alongside many Saturday Night Live stars as well. In 1996, he worked with Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor; in 1998 he worked in Half Baked, Woo and You’ve Got Mail. In 2000, Dave filmed one of his extremely popular efforts, “Killin’ Them Softly” and another in 2002, named “Undercover Brother”. Although by then Dave Chappelle had become a renowned personality in the comedy circles, his superstardom had yet to strike. That came with “The Chappelle Show”.

In 2003, Dave landed his own show on Comedy Central, titled “The Chappelle Show”. In that program, he frequently addressed the racial issues and invited musicians as guests. The show had a two year long run that turned out to be immensely successful. Before the third season was about to start, Dave became dissatisfied with the direction the show had taken and instead of compromising on his originality he ended the show. A long period of no performances followed and Dave remained rather low-profile for quite a while. In 2013, much to the delight of his fans, he made a comeback and gave a surprise performance at the New York City comedy club.

After his pleasantly surprising return, Dave decided to apply a more thorough approach and scheduled many stand up gigs across the country. He performed to sold-out audiences in North and South Carolina, Atlanta and Tennessee among other places. He also headlined the ‘Funny or Die Tour’ in August 2013. He is still performing throughout the country and his next destination is the Radio City Music Hall.

Dave Chappelle touches upon topics that are generally considered contentious and which other comedians will prefer not to choose. Racism, recreational drug use, American politics and morality are some of many such topics that have become a big part of Dave’s live shows. This audacity in performances has not only provided Dave a distinguished stature in the comedy world but has also earned him admiration and respect of fans worldwide. This incredibly talented performer has hit the road  for another one of his hilarious tour.
