Founded in 1930 by Professor John F. Carabella, the Albany Symphony Orchestra was infused with quintessential Italian orchestral elements courtesy its seminal music director. Born in Rome in 1885, Mr. Carabella became a prodigious student of the famed Italian composer Pietro Mascagni and brought over his Italian musical heritage over to America in 1915.
Over the decades, the Albany Symphony Orchestra has been steered by a pantheon of music directors, namely Rudolf Thomas, Edgar Curtis, Julius Hegyi, Geoffrey Simon and Ole Windingstad.
