About The Presets

Some of the hit numbers such as Girl and the Sea, Truth & Lies, Talk Like That, Youth in Trouble, Down Down Down, This Boy's in Love, Yippiyo-Ay, If I Know You, Are You the One and My People are among the songs the band is identified with. The duo consists of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes who were first seen as part of an electronic band called Prop. After parting ways in 2003 they made a fresh start and released an EP titled Blow Up containing seven tracks. The effort paid off as it put them under the spotlight. In addition to the smash-hit Beat On/Beat Off the EP featured the songs Let's Go, Pretty Little Eyes, Waiting For You, Cookie, At a Loss which helped in defining the sound which was hip, energetic with a dance club feel to it while having a distinctive approach towards music. The next year saw them with another EP called Girl and the Sea having five tracks; Summer of Love, Kitty in the Middle, Girl and the Sea, Cutters, and Mia's House. The EP catered to dance-punk lovers and consequently proved to be another hit to their credit.

However, this was only the beginning of what later turned into a phenomenon. It was the debut album Beams that gave rise to superstardom. The 2005 release flabbergasted the fans while receiving rave reviews from the critics. Hamilto and Moyes infused electronic dance music, electropop and electronic this time around hence making the album an energy booster. Allmusic, PopMatters, Rolling Stone and showered The Presets with overwhelming reviews. Allmusic referred to the album as “unforgettable 80's flair and dark, propulsive beats”. Sydney Morning Herald's Tim Colman lauded the pleasant synthesis of genres by and said that the duo had “successfully fused pop, techno, electro and rock”. The album received Gold certification in Australia and sold over thirty-five thousand copies.  
The second studio album Apocalypso further added to their elevating popularity while helping them sweep countless awards. It hit the Australian chart directly at number one and received 3x platinum certifications selling more than two hundred and ten thousand copies. My People, This Boy's in Love, Talk Like That, Yippiyo-Ay, Kicking and Screaming, and If I Know You are the singles from the album. My People ranked at number fourteen on ARIA Singles Chart, This Boy's in Love at twenty-three, Talk Like That at number nineteen, Yippiyo-Ay at ninety-four (while also becoming an immediate favorite on the radio), and If I Know You found a spot at number fifty-seven.
Following the heightened critical and commercial acclaim of the album, The Presets ended up with innumerable accolades. They own various ARIA Awards including Best Dance Release, Best Group, Album of the Year, and Best Music Video. They have also won UK Music Video Award for the song If I Know You. Other awards include; GQ Award, SMAC Award, APRA Award and JA Award.  The group is in a league of its own which is why they are known for their unique and quirky sense of music.
