About Cut Copy

Melbourne based Australian music band Cut Copy gathered widespread recognition as a synthpop band, and was founded in 2001. Dan Whitford was the person behind this project, who was a graphic designer and DJ by profession. The band currently comprises of Dan himself along with Mitchell Scott, Ben Browning and Tim Hoey. Another member named Bennett Foddy joined the group at the time of foundation but left in 2004 as he wanted to pursue his higher education and complete his Ph.D. degree. Even before launching the new band, Dan had already released an EP titled I Thought of Numbers and a single titled 1981.

The first compilation of work by Cut Copy was an LP titled Bright Like Neon Love that was released officially in 2004. It came out to be an instant success, earning great recognition as well as establishing reputation for the newly formed band. The released was followed by promotional tours as well as their associated acts with renowned artists both across the continent as well as internationally, visiting Los Angeles, New York and others in the United States as well as many cities at the United Kingdom. Among the associated acts that Cut Copy performed are included those with The Presets, Bloc Party, Junior Senior, Franz Ferdinand and Mylo. One of their most famous and most successful tours was with Daft Punk, when the band travelled across the Australia, and titled the tour as the Nevereverland tour. The band had this tour in 2007, and it is estimated that the number of visitors at different performances during it exceeded 50,000, making it a huge success and encouraging the group for their further endeavors.

Cut Copy released their second album titled In Ghost Colours in 2008, although it is said that the album was completed almost a year earlier. It was not officially released in Australia as the management of the recording company as well as the band had decided to have the album launched nationally as well as internationally on the same date, and for that the delay in countrywide release was inevitable. The album was a super hit across the globe, and proved to be another landmark in the band’s journey towards excellence. It was rated number one on many international music charts including ARIA, the official charts for recording industry of Australia.

As the time passed, the band gained more fame as well as fortune for its outstanding performance and the unique and catchy features of the music it produced. Their song titled Lights and Music was officially included among the songs that graced the occasion of FIFA World Cup 2009. Some of the songs were also featured in popular TV shows like Nip/Tuck that had their song titled Far Away playing in the background of a scene.
