Taking their first steps

Bayside’s very first effort was an extended play that consisted of five songs which they self-released in 2000. The group then focused on to build a fan following for which they share stages across the United States with names like, Taking Back Sunday, The Alkaline Trio and Further Seems Forever. They later caught the eye of Dying Wish through which they released their second extended play titled, ‘Long Stories Short’ in 2001. The E.P featured six songs and was produced by Chris Guglielmo. The group continued touring and played music in festivals Surf Fest, Furnace Fest and Warped Tour. In 2003, Bayside teamed up with Name Taken to put out an extended play called, ‘Bayside/Name Taken’ before Victory records signed them.

The group’s first full length studio album, ‘Sirens and Condolences’ hit the markets in 2004 and was produced by J. Robbins. It received three stars out of five from AllMusic and Punknews.org respectively and sold more than fifty thousand copies. It also spawned one single, Masterpiece. Next year, the band came out with their sophomore record, ‘Bayside’ which was rated favorable by Exclaim! Following the release, the group went on tour with, Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights and Aiden but tragedy struck when their van hit a patch of ice and flipped over as a result of which the drummer, Holohan died. To honor their fallen friend, Bayside recorded an E.P, ‘Acoustic’ which was issued by Victory in 2006. It produced a song, Winter which was a tribute to Holohan.

The Walking Wounded

In the beginning of 2006, Chris Guglielmo joined Bayside as a drummer and the band started to work on their third album. ‘The Walking Wounded’ arrived in stores in 2007 and was produced by Shep Goodman and Kenny Gioia. The record was positively received by the critics as Rolling Stone gave it three and a half stars out of five and sold more than thirteen thousand copies in the United States.

The band’s fourth studio effort, ‘Shudder’ came out a year later after the release of, ‘The Walking Wounded’ and reached fifty second spot on the Billboard 200.  It was their last album for Victory and was later signed by Wind-Up through which they only released one record titled, ‘Killing Time.’ It hit the shelves in 2011 and produced two singles, Sick, Sick, Sick and Already Gone. Bayside then signed a recording deal with Hopeless for which they released their sixth studio record, ‘Cult.’ The album climbed twenty fourth spot on the Billboard 200 and achieved critical success as AllMusic gave it four stars out of five whereas AbsolutePunk gave it 8.3/10 rating.
