The rock band was established in late sixties in London, UK. Their major break came at a performance at the Blaise's club in London when they filled up for the band Sly & the Family Stone. Getting recognition in the wake of the performance the band went on to sign with the Atlantic Records. Since then the band has released twenty albums and has sold over thirteen million albums.

The hit single Owner of a Lonely Heart earned the band a Grammy Award nomination. Moreover, the single went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
