The origin of the band can be traced back to 1978, when the Stinson brothers Bob and Tommy started playing a bass guitar. The same year Bob and Mars met. Mars was a high school dropout at that time and took a liking the guitar but he later switched to drums. A three member band was made, which they titled ?Dogbreath.? However they did not have a lead singer at that time.

Incidentally, they met Paul Westerberg who was a janitor in a US Senator?s office. Paul was so impressed by one of their performance that he became a fan. But soon Mars brought him into the group and he became the lead singer. The band later changed their name to ?The Impediments? but after a drunken performance and being banned, they finally changed the name to ?The Replacements?.

The Replacements over time got a notorious reputation. They would often drink before their performances and occasionally only sang covers instead of singing their own songs. Their music was highly influenced by many great artists of their time including The Beatles, Johnny Thunders, The Clash, Big Star, The Rolling Stones, and The Ramones. They used to play songs with modest lyrics using the raw throated adult voice of Paul Westerberg.

The band has produced a total of seven studio albums, four extended plays and one live album. The released their first album in 1981, titled ?Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash? under the label of Twin/Tone Records. This album contained the hit single ?I?m in Trouble?. Their second album was released two years after in 1983 under the same label and titled ?Hootenanny?. They released a third album in 1984 titled ?Let It Be? which contained the single ?I Will Dare?. Their fifth album ?Tim? was released in 1985 and it was the first Replacements album to chart on the Billboard 200.

Their fifth album ?Pleased to Meet You? was ranked at number one hundred and thirty one while their sixth album ?Don?t Tell a Soul? was ranked at the fifty-seventh position on the Billboard 200. This album contained famous singles like ?Back to Back?, I?ll Be You?, and ?Achin? to Be.? ?I?ll Be You? topped both the Modern Rock Tracks Chart and the Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart.

The band released their seventh album, ?All Shook Down,? in 1990 and it reached number sixty nine on the US Billboard 200. The album contained the hit songs ?Merry Go Round? and ?When it Began.? This was the last album the band released before it split.

The Replacements are going to hit the United States once again as Paul Westerberg, Tommy Stinson and the company reunites for the Back By Unpopular Demand Tour.
