Kicking off his journey
Born in 1997, Kodak Black was interested in rap music from the beginning and started rapping when he was in elementary school. He spent his childhood days reading dictionaries and thesauruses to improve his vocabulary and later joined a rap group, Brutal Youngnz. After spending some years performing with the group, he quit to join another hip-hop group, The Kolyons.
Kodak Black then decided to go solo and released his first solo mixtape titled, ‘Project Baby’ on December 26, 2013. He then went on to drop two more mixtapes, ‘Heart of the Projects’ and ‘Institutions’ in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Black then churned out his first single, No Flockin’ in 2015. The song became his mainstream breakthrough as it not only achieved platinum status in the United States but also charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2016, Kodak Black was seen collaborating with French Montana on the song, Lockjaw which was certified platinum by the RIAA. He then spawned his fourth mixtape in the same year titled, ‘Lil B.I.G Pac.’ It was his first mixtape to achieve commercial success as it debuted at the thirty eighth spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and received a 64/100 rating from Metacritic. He was soon named a member of XXL magazine’s ‘2016 Freshmen Class.’
Painting Pictures
Kodak Black, in the fall of 2016, announced that he is working on his first full length album. On top of that, he also released the lead single from his then upcoming record titled, There He Go which was awarded gold certification by the RIAA. On March 31, 2017, Black finally dropped his debut studio LP, ‘Painting Pictures.’ It did great in the United States and reached the third spot on the Billboard 200.
‘Painting Pictures’ also turned out to be a hit in Canada where it peaked at the fifth spot. In addition, the album sold in excess of five hundred thousand copies in the U.S and contained two more singles besides There He Go titled, Tunnel Vision and Patty Cake. Tunnel Vision recorded double platinum level sales in the U.S and climbed to the sixth spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Project Baby 2 and F.E.M.A
Kodak Black continued to make his mark and released his fifth mixtape, ‘Project Baby 2’ on August 18, 2017. It featured collaborative tracks with stars like, Offset, XXXTentacion and JackBoy. The mixtape landed at the first spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and consisted of nineteen tracks out of which he released two singles, Roll in Peace and Transportin’.
Black then came out with his last mixtape of 2017 with Plies, titled, ‘F.E.M.A.’ It hit the stores on October 31st. He uploaded the mixtape in its entirety on SoundCloud and it included nine songs in total out of which, Real Hitta was streamed more than nine million times.

Kodak Black Announces Dying to Live Tour
The very talented and rather controversial rapper has recently unveiled the dates of his headlining North American tour. Titled Dying to Live, the outing is produced by Live Nation and scheduled to kick off with a show at New Orleans’s Mahalia Jackson Theater in March. It will then hit numerous notable cities including New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Philadelphia and Atlanta before wrapping up at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver in May, 2019.
The Dying to Live tour is in support of the musician’s new album of the same name. It includes the Platinum certified single ZEZE which features both Offset and Travis Scott.
