The Velveteen Rabbit is a musical by the director Leslie Reidel that centers on a young boy and his favorite stuffed rabbit. The show is based on a children’s novel with the same name and is known to most American kids. Simon Chan has composed the music and libretto of the stage adaptation. The curtain rises on the star of the show, Steve, a young boy who addresses the audience and tells them that today is his 19th birthday. He states that he has received birthday wishes from his parents already and a dollar bill from his grandma, which is a ritual. His brother Ben however, has forgotten his birthday which also happens every year. With the help of stage design, Steve then takes the spectators back in time to his childhood days when he was only six years old.
