This musical is based on the book by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez. The music and lyrics are also by same three talented people. When you recall that Trey Parker, and Matt Stone are the talented duo behind the "South Park" saga, it comes as little surprise that their latest creation is doing so well at theatres ever since its premiere.
The story of the Book of Mormon revolves around trials and tribulations encountered by two Mormon priests, called Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, who travel to a village in Northern Uganda in order to convert as many people as they can to Mormon religion. Upon their arrival they realize that they have lots of challenges to face. They discover that the people from Uganda face a lot of issues like poverty, famine, AIDS and are least interested in learning about religion.
The musical comprises of two acts, Act1 and Act 2. Act I includes the songs like "Hello" by Price, Cunningham and Mormon Boys, "Two by Two" by Price, Cunningham and Mormon Boys as well as "Hasa Diga Eebowai" by Mafala, Price, Cunningham and Ugandans. Act 2 includes the songs Mormon Hell Dream" by Price and Company, "I Believe" by Price , "Baptize Me" by Cunningham and Nabulungi and "I Am Africa" by McKinley, Cunningham and Missionaries.
As far as the cast for this musical is concerned, it includes Josh Gad as Elder Cunningham, Andrew Rannells as Elder Price, Nikki M. James as Nabalungi, Rory O'Malley as Elder McKinley and Michael Potts as Mafala Hatimbi.
On 17th August 2013, this musical celebrated its 1000th performance on Broadway whereas it’s first ever performance on Broadway was made in March 2011. Summing it up, in a short span of only two and a half years, this musical has already made 1000 performances on Broadway alone.
