The Book of Mormon is a story about two young missionaries who arrive in a remote village of Uganda. The villagers are constantly threatened and subjected to hardships by a cruel warlord. In an effort to challenge the status-quo, the immature but optimistic Morton missionaries embark upon preaching the Book of Mormon to the villagers. However, only one is familiar with the original content of the scripture. Hence, they remain unable to convey its values to the people and connect with them on a human level. The villagers on the other hand have other grave issues to be worried about like famine and AIDS. Since their basic needs of health, education and food are not being fulfilled, they remain uninterested and ignorant about spiritual aspects of life.
The musical premiered on Broadway in March of 2011. It was met with a highly positive response both commercially and critically. Amongst its honors include nine Tony Awards and a Grammy in the category of ‘Best Musical Theatre.’ Its original Broadway cast recording ranked on the third number of the Billboard chart. Tickets for the upcoming show of the musical are selling by the day. So get yours in time to enjoy this comedy that will have you in stitches towards the end.
