When asked what one knows about the man called Tarzan, many referred to it as “A man nurtured by apes”. A character, hero and an action figure created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan is primarily known for his masculinity and as a human power house. David Henry Hwang then stirred up the idea of coming up with a musical for which he teamed up with Phil Collins. It was near the end of the millennium when Tarzan: The Musical was launched. Disney’s animated movie comprised of five songs, written and composed by Phil Collins but he saved the best for later. When the musical hit the stage six years later in 2005, the album included nine new songs. Following the success of its predecessors, the musical was an instant hit as well. With your Tarzan: The Musical tickets , witness a magnificently composed musical
Tarzan: The Musical comprises of two acts. The theme follows that of the movie with minor tweaks in the roles. The list of characters includes Tarzan, Jane, Terk, Professor Porter, Young Tarzan Clayton, Kala and Kerchak. The role of Terk has been reversed with it being portrayed as male in the musical. The producers ignored the role of Tantor entirely, hence the elephant is absent from the musical.
Phil Collins, the artist, songwriter and composer is the creative force behind the musical. The artist’s profile is highlighted with big brands and labels, not only associated with music but also with his work for films, theater and arts. He was the core of the critically acclaimed Progressive Rock band "Genesis". Being at the helm of Genesis for more than two decades, his musical journey is no less than a fairytale. His trophy cabinet includes seven Grammys and two Golden Globe Awards. He won numerous other accolades and was later awarded with a star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame" along with an induction in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". Adding another feather in his cap, his name was included in the list of "Songwriters Hall Of Fame". Believed to have sold over 101 million music albums world-wide, he became only the third man on this planet to do so. Collins’s Tarzan: The Musical hit the Broadway stage in 2006.
The first production did not do as well as expected and the ticket sales were low. Broadway made some changes then, by casting different characters and eventually it paid off as the musical was finally appreciated. After finding Broadway success, several production companies adapted the musical and it was presented in various cities like Netherlands, San Jose, Utah, Arizona, Stuttgart, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Indiana, Kristianstad and Hamburg. Following the success, the musical earned many nominations. It was able to win awards outside of US as well.
