Formed at the Indiana University as a professional a capella group in 1996, SNC has become a major phenomenon over the past few years. The group was founded by Dan Ponce and consisted of nine other students including Randy Stine, Steve Morgan, Dave Roberts, Mike Itkoff, Kevin Carroll, Charlie Mechling, Jerome Collins, Patrick Hachey and Walter Chase. When the group's 1998 recording of The 12 Days of Christmas was uploaded on YouTube, the video got more than sixteen millions views on the website. It further caught the attention of Craig Kallman, the Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Records.

Kallman, impressed with what he had seen, called one of the group's member Randy Stine and offered a five albums contract with the record label. This inspired the reunion and reemergence of the Straight No Chaser group. With their major deal with Atlantic Records, SNC achieved a lot more success. They won CARA's Best Holiday Album Award (2009) and toured all around the country performing hit shows. They even came up with a story that was considered for a DreamWorks feature film.
