Pulse Pounding Performances
If you haven't seen Stomp perform live on stage before, then you are in for a surprise. We can assure you that you have likely never seen anything remotely similar to their performance. You might be wondering what makes Stomp's performances so unusual? Well, this band does not use conventional percussion instruments to produce music; instead, they use a range of everyday household objects to make distinct rhythms. Some of these items include garbage cans, matchboxes, poles, lighters, brooms, dustbins, pipes, pans, pots, and hoses. When used together, these objects produce a distinct, electrifying sound.
A Start of Something Exciting
Stomp is the brainchild of two highly talented individuals - Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell. The two began working together in the 1980s on the streets. According to Cresswell, their early music was very rough, thrashy, punk-like, and eclectic. McNicholas and Cresswell then formed a new troupe: a group of 8 performers who debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as Stomp, back in 1991.
Becoming A Part Of The Pop Culture
The band soon began experimenting and improvising during their performances, using all sorts of objects to create a distinct sound. They found that the audience loved this kind of improvisation, so they started giving the audience these kinds of performances. They soon began touring internationally and became an indispensable part of pop culture. Stomp is now celebrating a quarter century, and is still as relevant as it was 25 years ago.
Winning Big
Stomp has been presented with several awards over the years, including the Olivier Award, OBIE Award, and the Drama Desk Award. They have also received several Emmy Award nominations. In 2008, the band was included in Entertainment Weekly's list of "New Classics: The 50 Best Plays and Musicals from 1983 to 2008."
Major Performances and Appearances
Stomp has performed at many historical venues and high-profile events. In 1996, they had the honor of performing at the Acropolis in Athens. In 2000, they performed at Bill Clinton's Millennium celebration, and in 2012, they performed at the London Olympics closing ceremony. The group has also made notable television appearances; in 2011, they appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where they performed "Cecilia" with Jimmy and Paul Simon.
Having toured successfully in the past, the witty and unique music ensemble is all set to dazzle audiences with their ravishing and mesmerizing performances. Don't forget to buy your Stomp tickets soon; the audience has loved their past performances, and based on Stomp's record of hit shows, it is safe to say that this show will also be as entertaining as their previous ones.
