To the surprise of many people, the current owners of the show, Bruce Jordan and Marilyn Abrams, are not the original owners of the show, nor is the concept of the play their own. According to various sources, they only acquired the rights of the show from David Eastwood. The show itself was originally written by Paul Pörtner, a German playwright. Since the show was originally written in German, it was called Scherenschnitt. What sets Shear Madness apart from other mysteries and comedies is that it gives you a chance to be the chief investigator and try to unravel the mysterious murder that landed the hair salon sealed with the yellow police tape. Marilyn Abrams and Bruce Jordan have done a brilliant job in making a seamless US adaptation of the show, and despite the mystery, have successfully managed to keep the plot of the play simple enough while maintaining all the suspense.   The plot of the play revolves around a hair salon owned by Isabel Czerny. The play opens with the information that the owner of the salon has been murdered, and the audience members are given a chance to investigate and interrogate the actors in an attempt to solve the mystery and find the murderer. The cast comprises a total of four characters, one of whom is a gay hairdresser who works in collaboration with his assistant. There are also two elderly people, one of whom is an antique dealer. Most of the humor comes from the impromptu quips of the actors when they respond to the questions of the audience members.   The uniqueness of the show is one of the reasons why it has been such a hit amongst the audience; since there is no defined script of the show, the audience finds something new each time they watch it, and that is what keeps them coming back again and again.
