The Lion King is a beautiful musical which is based on the 1994 Academy Award winning animated flick. The show’s music is given by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Elton John whereas the lyrics are written by the Grammy winning lyricist, Tim Rice. The book of this musical is penned down by the duo of Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi.

On July 8, 1997, The Lion King was taken on a test run and was performed at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. The show became a huge hit and soon, it debuted on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater in Manhattan on October 15th of the same year. The original Broadway production casted Jason Raize as Simba, John Vickery as Scar, Samuel E. Wright as Mufasa and Heather Headley as Nala.

The Lion King has received many accolades over the years including, six Tony Awards, eight Drama Desk Awards and two Laurence Olivier Awards. The musical has also collected positive reviews from many notable publications including, Newsweek, The New York Times, Time Magazine and Entertainment Weekly.
