Start of Les Miserables

Les Miserables was initially written and performed in French and premiered in Paris in 1980 for just three months before being scrapped. In 1983, Sir Cameron Anthony Mackintosh, a British theatrical producer, got his hands on the French recording album of the play Les Miserables and decided to remake it into an English version. He collaborated with the Royal Shakespeare Company and successfully created the musical Les Miserables. It was performed at the Barbican Centre in 1985 and was a sold out show. In December of the same year it opened at the Palace Theatre before being transferred to Queen’s Theatre in 2004 where it has played for 15 years.

Les Miserables has been a favorite Broadway production since its premiere in 1985 and for all the right reasons. Its themes of love and morality, battle sequences, the emotions it evokes in the audience has made it timeless.
