About the Play

The musical follows the life of America’s founding father and first Treasure Secretary, Alexander Hamilton. While it borrows closely from history, the show’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has tweaked some historical facts in order to also turn this play into a symbolic commentary on modern times. Miranda does not mean to give another history lesson: he wants instead for America now to connect with the ghost of America past. The foundation of this country rides on its essence of being a melting pot and so the founding fathers’ story is one of every single immigrant who has learned to call this place home. Not only that, but reimagining the characters of this play as hip-hop artists is ingenious since hip-hop is the music of the marginalized; the underdogs who have made it big.

Hamilton has become nothing less than a cultural benchmark and it completely changed popular culture. From Beyonce to ex-President Obama, people from various walks of life have united under their praise for this production. Having won a record number of eleven Tonys in 2016, Hamilton is considered an inspired and inspiring production which achieves one mile stone after another.
