Hamilton: A Game-Changing Musical

Composer, actor, lyricist, singer and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda has expertly put together an exciting and engaging production that has been sung (and rapped) to near perfection. The play made its first off-Broadway appearance in 2015 at the Public Theater in New York. Since then, it has been performed in front of umpteen sold out crowds.

During the latter part of 2015, Hamilton was moved to Broadway with its debut taking place at the Richard Rogers Theatre. New heights of commercial and critical success were achieved by the play with an unprecedented rise in advance box office sales. Also, the myriad awards and accolades won by Hamilton is a testament to the creative prowess of the production team. 

Split into two acts, the musical is basically the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the country. This story is brought forth to the audience through different events in Hamilton’s life as well as the wider American history.

The creative team has masterfully chronicled the life of Hamilton and recreated a number of key characters including Phillip Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Hercules Mulligan, Angelica Schuyler, Marquis De Lafayette, etc.

Hamilton’s original Broadway production won 11 of the 16 categories it was nominated in at the 2016 Tony Awards. A Grammy Award was secured later that year in the “Best Musical Theater Album” category while a Pulitzer Prize for Drama is another prestigious accolade bestowed upon the hit musical.
