Hamilton: A little History

Lin Manuel Miranda is the mastermind behind Hamilton. He has written the book as well as provided the music and lyrics of this show. It is based on American writer, Ron Chernow’s, ‘Alexander Hamilton,’ a National Book Critics Circle Award winning biography which hit the shelves in 2004. 

In February 2015, Hamilton made its Off-Broadway debut at The Public Theater in New York City. The show was met with such an overwhelmingly positive response that in August of the same year, the show opened debuted on Broadway. The original Broadway production of the musical was staged at the Richard Rogers Theatre and featured Lin Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton and Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr.

A Raging Success

Hamilton has earned a lot of accolades including, eleven Tony Awards and eight Drama Desk Awards. The album of the musical has also been released. Titled, ‘Hamilton’ the record was not only certified triple platinum by the RIAA but also won a Grammy for, ‘Best Musical Theater Album.’
