How Frozen Was Adapted For Theaters?
Disney has a very good reputation for transforming its animated films into stage shows. For instance, The Lion King has been running in theaters for around 21 years and has earned billions of dollars worldwide. Therefore, adapting Frozen for the stage seemed pretty inevitable; after all it was the highest-grossing movie in history. However, creating the Broadway version was not all that simple. Initially, Disney was so disappointed with the direction of the musical that they fired the original director within six months and hired a new creative team.
The Musical Turns Out To Be A Hit
It was then that Christopher Oram (set/costume designer) and Michael Grandage (director) stepped in and saved the show. After 18 months of hard work, the production opened to strong ticket sales and warm critical reviews. It then went on to earn three Tony Awards nominations.
A Heartwarming Story
The production revolves around two sisters, Elsa and Anna, who are separated in childhood due to a mysterious secret. After Elsa realizes that her leaky powers have gotten out of control, she goes into a self-exile and never looks back. See what happens when Anna sets out on a difficult journey to find her sister and bring her back to where she belongs. Will she be able to succeed in this endeavor?
