A Broadway star is born
Dear Evan Hansen is the creative masterpiece of Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul. It is directed by Michael Greif, who is famous for directing Tony Award-winning musicals "Next to Normal" and "Rent," and is the recipient of three Obie Awards. Levenson penned the book for Dear Evan Hansen, while the music and lyrics were given by the Tony-nominated duo Pasek and Paul, who have also worked on other musicals such as "A Christmas Story," "Edges," "Dogfight," and "James and the Giant Peach."
Dear Evan Hansen premiered one year ago in 2015 at the Washington D.C. not-for-profit regional theater, Arena Stage. The debut production of the musical was orchestrated by the two-time Grammy-winning Cuban-American musician, arranger, conductor, and musical director Alex Lacamoire, while the set was designed by the talented David Korins. The cast of the musical featured Ben Platt, star of "Ricki and the Flash," as Evan Hansen, Rachel Bay Jones as Heidi Hansen, Tony Award-nominated American stage actress and singer Jennifer Laura Thompson as Cynthia Murphy, Michael Park as Larry Murphy, Mike Faist as Connor Murphy, and Laura Dreyfuss in the role of Zoe Murphy.
Off-Broadway production
Dear Evan Hansen opened Off-Broadway in previews at the Second Stage Theater in 2016. The show was choreographed by Danny Mefford. It featured cast members Laura Dreyfuss, Ben Platt, Rachel Bay Jones, Mike Faist, Will Roland, and Jennifer Laura Thompson, who all repeated their roles from the Arena Stage production. The musical also featured a couple of new cast members, John Dossett and Kristolyn Lloyd, who starred as Larry Murphy and Alana Beck, respectively. The Off-Broadway production concluded in the summer of 2016.
Broadway Premiere
The musical Dear Evan Hansen premiered on Broadway in the fall of 2016. It was initially announced that the show would be held at the Belasco Theatre. Plans were later changed, and it was decided that the musical would be performed at the Music Box Theatre. Michael Park was cast again as Larry Murphy, replacing John Dossett, who was hired to play the part of Tommy Lewis in the critically acclaimed musical War Paint. A heart touching tale
Dear Evan Hansen's tale revolves around a young teenager, Evan Hansen, who gets involved in a family tragedy of another teen, Connor Murphy. Murphy commits suicide, and his parents, Cynthia and Larry Murphy, later find a note apparently from Connor to Hansen, who is a senior at the same high school. The note was penned by Evan himself in an effort to overcome anxiety. He decides to help Connor's family in their grief and pretends to be a close friend of his by writing down fake emails to support his claim.

Dear Evan Hansen has received rave reviews from the critics. Melissa Rose Bernado wrote a review for Entertainment Weekly, praising the musical in words, "It instantly pierces your heart and burrows into your consciousness." The New York Times stated, "It's a gorgeous new musical for anyone with a beating heart."
Apart from receiving overwhelming response from different publications, the musical also won a couple of Outer Critics Circle Awards, including one in the category of "Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical," as well as two Obie Awards.
