Based on the book Children’s book by the renowned Dr. Seuss, Cat in the Hat has evolved into a magically humorous musical which has established solid foundations in Broadway Theatre since its inception in 2000. The play was officially produced by the National Theater of Great Britain. The play was originally adapted and brilliantly directed by Katie Mitchell who is famous for her passionate productions of huge dramas and was awarded an OBE for her works in drama. The Cat in the Hat marked the director’s transition from serious performances to humorous directed more towards the concept of storytelling for children. Mitchell stated in an interview that her inclination towards this show was largely an act of love from her to her child.

The Cat in the Hat displays a small, yet superb cast and nominal scenic needs. The production pack outlines each and every characteristic of the National Theater’s outline in implausible detail. From prop construction to costume plots and stage design, the play is orchestrated with superb aspects as even the sound cues make the experience as captivating as it is.

Katie Mitchell’s adaption of the story was done in entirety as the producers of the show didn’t want to fray away from the exact story in the original novel.

The play revolves around two siblings who are left alone at home by their single mother due to some office work, under the supervision of their nanny who falls asleep. The play starts when the two children discover a huge talking cat in the house that is crazy and wants them to have fun. The cat when let loose destroys the whole house that their mother cleaned before leaving for a party she was hosting at the house. After all the havoc, the Cat becomes ashamed and leaves the house when he realizes that the children aren’t amused with his tricks. The children then try to clean up the mess, but how will they do so within such short time? Right after that the Cat turns up with a large cleaning machine to help sally and the boy.
