Bring it ON simply rocks the Broadway and brings to the stage the world of cut throat competition of competitive cheerleading. With high school politics thrown in, the show is a blast. The libretto is written by Jeff Whitty who won the Tony award® for his Avenue Q. The captivating music and lyrics are written by the extraordinary, Tony award®-winning team composed of Tom Kitt from the Next to Normal fame, Lin-Manuel Miranda known for In the Heights and lyricist Amanda Green famous for the awe-inspiring High Fidelity. The music is brilliantly supervised by the Tony Award-winning orchestrator Alex Lacamoire who has the superbly executed Wicked under his belt. Last but not the least; the dance routines that makes the audience literally jump up with excitement are choreographed by the maestro director and choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler who is already a legend in Broadway due to his rendition of In the Heights.
The history of Bring it ON The Musical goes back to the year 2000 when a new genre in movies was started; the aggressive high school cheerleading competitions were brought into the limelight by the release of the movie "Bring it ON" starring Kirsten Dunst as the main protagonist. A new era of cheerleading movies started after this teen comedy and four sequels were released in the next decade. Jeff Whitty used this new classy and funny genre as an inspiration for his book and this way the whole idea of Bring it ON the Musical was conceived. However, his libretto is quite original and very captivating and just a free adaptation of the original movie. Moreover, the performances are live and nothing can beat the excitement that imbues a live performance.
The enchantingly beautiful story of cheerleader Campbell is brought to life in the mesmerizing mixture of acting, songs and out of this world dancing. Campbell has it all—a loving boyfriend, the highest position in the cheerleading squad and a clear path to winning the national championship in cheerleading. The audience sees her perfect world crashing down around her and the changes in her circumstances in this highly original explosive ode to cheerleading. The audience comes face to face with the common emotions and anxieties that are a significant part of the lives of high school students; their jokes, angst, emotional upheavals and sarcasm come alive under the spotlight. It is simply a blast from the past as people relive their own emotions in high school. Also, the modern problems and politics are also expertly brought to the stage by the realistic performances.
Bring it ON is pure fun with witty dialogs, extraordinary music and brilliantly executed routines by the great team of gymnasts and dancers. The dancers literally set the stage on fire by their physics-defying movements and rocking steps.
