Born on 10th September, 1949 Bill O’Reilly went to Chaminade High School and St.Brigid parochial school. He played as a goalie on the Chaminade hockey team and was also on the schools Little League baseball team. O’Reilly went to Marist College and worked as a writer at the "The Circle", his school newspaper. He went abroad during his junior college year and attended Queen Mary College, University of London. After getting his degree for history in Bachelor of Arts from Marist, Bill O’Reilly went to Miami when he was twenty one and started teaching English at Monsignor Pace High School for two years 1970 -1972. He went back to his studies and got a Masters degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University. He then went to Harvard and got a Masters degree in Public Administration from there.
His first step in broadcasting, starting as a reporter and an anchor at WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania. O’Reilly then moved to WFAA-TV, Dallas where he got the Dallas Press Club Award due to his brilliant investigative journalism. KMGH-TV in Denver was his next stop where he won a local Emmy for his work and coverage on skyjacking. In 1980, Bill O’Reilly became an anchor for a WCBS-TV program "Magazine" and it was at WCBS-TV where he got another local Emmy because of his work on corrupt marshals. His hard work started paying off when he was promoted as a News correspondent at CBS News covering wars in Falkland Islands and El Salvador. He joined ABC News, after he left the CBS due to a dispute when footage of riots shot by his team was aired uncredited, in 1986. At ABC he took on multiple roles during his time at the network as a host for "World News Tonight" along with being a general assignment reporter for different programs like "Nightline", "World News Tonight" and "Good Morning America". He shot to fame when he joined the King World, which is now CBS, for their show "Inside Edition". Bill O’Reilly was among the very first broadcasters to report the fall of the Berlin Wall and later became the first anchor of a national broadcaster to report directly from the LA riots in 1992. He left the program in 1995 and went to Harvard to get his Master’s degree for Public Administration. As soon as he got out of Harvard he was taken onboard the newly setup Fox News Channel to host his own program "The O’Reilly Report" which was later renamed "The O’Reilly Factor". The show has topped ratings regularly and has set new trends in opinion based shows. Till 2009 Bill O’Reilly hosted a very popular radio program as well which was carried to the public by around four hundred stations to an audience of about 3.26 million listeners.
As success followed him, so did the controversies. He has been accused of manipulating facts and statistics, misstating crucial information and as an analyst who bases his investigation and comments on propaganda and calling people by degrading names. He has also been involved in a sexual harassment lawsuit by a former producer for "The O’Reilly Factor" Andrea Mackris but nothing has deterred Bill O’Reilly and he has come through all the controversies, all the negative headlines by owning up to any mistakes he made and standing by for what he thinks is right. O’Reilly has also been awarded the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Governors Award along with a lot of other accolades.
Is Bill O’Reilly controversial? Yes. Is he Brilliant? The answer to that is in affirmative as well and that is an extra pull for the audiences who just can’t wait to find out what this maverick analyst is going to do next. His straight up and honest analysis makes it easier for the promoters to sell Bill O’Reilly tickets without any problems.
