Elvis Presley: An Icon
Born in 1935, Elvis Presley was among the most influential rock and roll artists in history. He has sold more than six hundred million albums worldwide and won multiple accolades including, three Grammy Awards. Elvis also has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Starting his career in the mid 50s, Elvis became a huge star in the United States in his early years. His first three albums ‘Elvis Presley,’ ‘Elvis’ and ‘Elvis’ Christmas Album’ debuted at the first spot on the Billboard 200 and all of them went on to sell millions of copies in the United States. The Mississippi native released a total of seven more studio albums through the 1960s including, ‘Something for Everybody’ which recorded gold level sales in the U.S. In addition, it became his fourth studio effort to top the charts in the country. In the same decade, Elvis went on to work in major flicks like, ‘Wild in the Country,’ ‘Follow That Dream,’ ‘Fun in Acapulco,’ ‘Frankie and Johnny’ and ‘Speedway.’ Thanks to these films and his hit music, he became a global phenomenon.
Taking over the world
In the 1970s, Elvis Presley continued to lead the entertainment industry. He experimented with his sound and included elements of country music which led to him producing albums like, ‘Elvis Country (I’m 10,000 Years Old),’ ‘Love Letters from Elvis’ and ‘Elvis Now’ all of which became major hits. Eight more studio efforts were released by this NME Award winning megastar including his last, ‘Moody Blue’ which hit the markets in 1977. It climbed to the third spot on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum in the U.S and Canada. This was Elvis’s last album before he died on August 16, 1977.
During his iconic career, Elvis also recorded many soundtrack albums including, ‘G.I. Blues,’ ‘Frankie and Johnny’ and ‘Elvis’ all of which were awarded platinum certifications by the RIAA. He also spawned six live and five compilation albums. Plus, he is also credited for twenty nine extended plays.
