The Female WWE Revolution

Women have been a part of World Wrestling Entertainment for a long time now and the female revolution in the company began in earnest when the legendary Fabulous Moolah joined the WWE in the year 1983. In 1984, Cyndi Lauper, the musician started a feud with her manager Lou Albano and that brought female wrestling to the mainstream.

The entire storyline was dubbed "Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection" and it was decided that Lauper and Albano would settle their differences in a match. Albano decided to represent Moolah whereas Lauper was represented by Wendi Richter. The match took place at "The Brawl to End It All," and was won by Richter. 

That was the start of a revolution that would pave the way for women to make their mark. The 1980s saw the arrival of Miss Elizabeth and the Sensational Sherri on the professional wrestling landscape with WWE. Then in the early half of the 1990s came Alundra Blayze and Sunny. The arrival of the famous Attitude Era of the WWE put women under the spotlight even more. Big name stars like Lita, Trish Stratus, Chyna, Debra, Sable, Tori, Ivory and Torrie Wilson were right in the center of some epic storylines and matches in history.

Now the mantle is being carried by stars like Nia Jax, Ronda Rousey, Alexa Bliss, Carmella, Charlotte Flair, Alicia Fox, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Billie Kay, Paige, Brie Bella, Ember Moon, Maryse and Natalya. The women's division looks stronger right now than it has ever been in history and now the WWE female superstars are all set to headline the sensational WWE Evolution event.

The Evolution Announcement

On July 23, 2018 edition of Raw, the chairman of the WWE, Vince McMahon and the COO and former World Champion Triple H stepped inside the ring with Stephanie McMahon to make a huge announcement. The entire roster was assembled on the entrance ramp and that is when Stephanie McMahon made the announcement that the WWE Evolution, the first ever all women pay-per-view event will be held on October 28, 2018. The announcement received a huge ovation from everyone in attendance. It truly was a monumental announcement!

The Matches So Far

So far, three matches have been announced for Evolution and those are huge matches too. Alexa Bliss will take on the iconic Trish Stratus. If Alexa is one of the biggest names in women's wrestling right now, it was Trish who is considered by many to be the greatest WWE women's champion in history. It should be an epic match between two of the biggest names from two different eras.

The second match will feature Mickie James as she goes one on one with the legendary Lita. James is a formidable force while Lita was one of the mainstays of the women's division during the Attitude Era. The former world champion is one of the all time greats and it will be interesting to see how she will fare when she comes up against her nemesis Mickie James.

The 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament's final match will also take place at Evolution and it will feature Toni Storm facing lo Shirai. The WWE Women's Championship matches for Raw, SmackDown and NXT will take place at the show too along with the NXT UK Women's Championship match.

The storylines are developing and the stars headlining these matches will be finalized soon. Not only that, but a lot of women stars not participating in the matches will also be there.
