UAB Blazers Football
UAB began its football program quite recently in the early 1990s, as opposed to college football teams that have decades of history and tradition. The first ever head coach of the team was Jim Hilyer, who helmed the team from 1991 till 1994. Initially, the UAB Blazers football team was a part of the NCAA sanctioned Division III. In 1993, they joined Division I-AA and in 1996, the Division I-A. In 1999, the team joined Conference USA.
In 1995, Coach Watson Brown took over as the head coach of the team and remained at that position till the end of 2006. He then left for Tennessee Tech. After his departure, Neil Callaway was named the head coach, following the management’s failure to reach an agreement with Jimbo Fisher. Five years into his tenure, Callaway was dismissed and a new coach, Garrick McGee was given the position. McGee was previously at the University of Arkansas, serving as coach. He remained at the post for two years, before eventually accepting an offer from the University of Louisville, to work as the offensive coordinator. He was replaced by Bill Clark.
Difficult Times for UAB Football
On the 30th of November, 2014, one day after the team became bowl eligible for the first time since 2004, it was reported by Sports Illustrated that UAB intended on firing the athletic director Brian Mackin. In early December, Ray Watts, the UAB president made an official announcement, stating that the school would be closing down the football program along with the bowling and rifle programs by the end of the 2014-15 academic year. The main reason given for this decision was that the cost for fielding a competitive football team was constantly rising. However, on 1st June, 2015, Watts made a reversal announcement due to the public opinion against the initial decision and a public fundraising campaign that raised $27 million towards the program. The Blazers are expected to resume play in 2017, under their coach, Bill Clark.
UAB Football Records
UAB Football has seen a variety of ups and downs since its formation. It was in 2000 that the team received its first monumental victory by beating LSU in Baton Rouge. Now the team is all set to make a grand return to the football field. If you want to catch these upcoming moments, you ought to get these UAB Blazers tickets at the earliest.

The last meeting of the two teams was on 29th November, 2014, that the Blazers won.
