The history of the team goes back to the early 1990s, when the team was created as the Toledo Storm. Their home arena was the Toledo Sports Arena. They were the first to follow the highly-famed Toledo Goaldiggers, who had dissolved in 1986 and subsequently relocated to Kansas. The Toledo Walleye had big footsteps to follow, as the Goaldiggers had been highly prolific, winning two Riley Cups and two Brabham Cups, and they were also the Northern Division champions six times.

The Toledo Walleye has affiliations with top-rated National Hockey League teams such as the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. They have also been associated with American Hockey League teams like the Rockford IceHogs and Grand Rapids Griffins. Their home field, the Huntington Center, hosts a number of exciting events, whether directly or indirectly related to the Walleye. The Walleye fans don't miss a chance to party. This season, Joe Palmer and Jimmy Spratt are the goaltenders, while Willie Coetzee, Chris DiDomenico, Dominic Osman, Sal Peralta, and Kyle Rogers are the right wingers. Sawyer was named Defenseman of the Year and was part of the All-ECHL First Team. Maxime Tanguay was named the winner of the All ECHL Rookie Team, and Peter Leblanc, J.C. Sawyer, and Maxime Tanguay were selected for the ECHL All-Star Game.

After the unfinished success of their inaugural season, the Walleye are ready for a hard-fought competition. They have already taken down some tough opponents and are determined to give them an even harder time.
