NHL Stadium Series
The NHL Stadium Series is one of three annual outdoor contests played during the regular season. The other two are the NHL Heritage Classic and the NHL Winter Classic. Initiated in 2014, the Stadium Series features a single game or group of games between a few designated NHL sides.
The home team welcomes the visitors to an outdoor stadium in the city where it is based. Previously, multiple encounters used to be scheduled with more than two competitors involved. Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche were established as the Quebec Nordiques in 1972. They were one of the founding franchises of the old World Hockey Association (WHA). Following the 1979 NHL-WHA merger, the Nordiques joined the NHL.
In 1995, a change of ownership led to relocation to Denver. Since then, they have been known as the Colorado Avalanche. Their list of accomplishments includes 9 Division titles, 2 Conference championships, 2 Presidents’ Trophies and 2 Stanley Cups.
Los Angeles Kings
Two-time Stanley Cup winners Los Angeles Kings were set up in 1967. They joined the NHL that year as one of its expansion sides. Over the years, the Kings have had the services of many great players including Wayne Gretzky, Marcel Dionne, Rogie Vachon, Charlie Simmer and Luc Robitaille among others.
Other than their 2 Stanley Cup triumphs, the team from the City of Angels has also won 3 Conference championships and 1 Division crown. This will be the Kings’ first Stadium Series appearance since 2015.
