The Memphis Grizzlies were founded in 1995. They were established to play in Canada as one of NBA's expansion teams. Originally, the team's name was decided to be the Vancouver Mounties. This name was changed after complaints from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The name was then changed to the Grizzlies. This name was decided because of the grizzly bear, native to British Columbia. In honor of James Naismith, who was the founder of the game, the team's color scheme contained the color Naismith blue. The team also had a website, becoming the first team in the history of the National Basketball Association to have one. It was established by Bob Kertein in 1995. The Grizzlies managed to gain victory is the first two matches they played. However, the season ended with the team losing with the worst record in the history of the franchise, losing twenty-three matches in a row in two months.

On the 26th of March, 2001, the team was relocated to Memphis upon their request to the NBA. Gasol Marc, one of the players of the team, won the award for the Rookie of the Year after the first season of the Grizzlies in Memphis. Shane Battier was made an informal spokesman of the team and Billy Knight, who was the general manager of the team was let go. Following the departure of Knight and the season of 2001-2002, a new general manager was hired in 2002. His name was Jerry West and he was a former Los Angeles Laker and a member of the Hall of Fame. He won the award for the NBA Executive of the Year later in the season of 2003-2004. Following the arrival of Jerry West, the team went through a lot of changes. Sidney Lowe, who was the head coach of the team was removed due to a 0-8 loss in one of the games of the season. While the 2002-2003 season was going on, another coach, by the name of Hubie Brown was appointed for the team. In the following season in 2004, the Grizzlies made the team's history by managing to make the playoff game, and Brown won the award for the NBA Coach of the Year.

However, while the season of 2004-2005 was going on, Brown resigned from his position of head coach of the Grizzlies . To replace him, Jerry West hired Mike Fratello as the team's new coach. Fratello was an analyst at TNT as well as a previous coach. With this change, there followed an improvement in the team's record and they managed to advance to the postseason again.

The major owner of the team is Michael Heisley. He owns ninety-five percent share of the team, and the rest of the five percent is operated by various owners such as J. R. Hyde, who is the founder of AutoZone, Barbara Hyde, who is his wife, Staley Cates and Elliot Perry. The colors of the team include Memphis Midnight Blue, White, Grizzlies Gold, Beale Street Blue and Smoke Blue. The current general manager of the team is Chris Wallace and their head coach is Lionel Hollins. The team has not managed to win any Championship titles, Conference titles or Division titles as yet. Two teams belonging to the North American sports leagues are based in Tennessee, but none of them play in Memphis, making the Grizzlies the only team to play in the city.

The strength of the team is great at the moment and the Grizzlies are all prepared to bring on an outstanding game for the audience. David Fizdale has been fired by the Grizzlies

David Fizdale has paid the price for Memphis Grizzlies’ poor start to the season by losing his job as the head coach of the team. Fizdale was in his second season with the franchise and took the Grizzlies to the postseason in his first campaign at the helm. But the 2017-2018 season has not gone according to the script and the Grizzlies are 7-12. This record sees them in twelfth spot in the Western Conference standings. The Grizzlies have made it to the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons and now it will be interesting to see where they go from here.
