Kentucky Wildcats Baseball Program:
The Wildcats baseball program was founded in 1896. Over the years, the team has only enjoyed modest success. They have made six NCAA Tournament appearances and have one conference championship to their name, which they won in 2006.
Under Head Coach Gary Henderson, who is now in his sixth year as coach, the team has done much better. They have made two NCAA Tournament appearances and enjoyed their best ever season in history (2012).
The Wildcats won a school-record forty five games in the season and for the first time in its history, the school was ranked number one. Head Coach Henderson won the SEC Coach of the Year after being voted for by his fellow league coaches. The team won seven out of ten series in the SEC that year, however, failed to win the National Championship.
Vanderbilt Commodores:
The Wildcats’ opponents for this game, the Vanderbilt Commodores, are one of the most successful baseball programs in the country. Since the turn of the century, the Commodores have reached the NCAA Tournament each year except 2004. The team has three College World Series appearances (2011, 2014, and 2015) to its credit and became National Champions in 2014.
