Football fans are in for a treat as the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl is once again making its way to the Independence Stadium. The annual football competition is known to present a post season National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I bowl game. Matches are held at the Independence Stadium located in Shreveport, Louisiana. The football stadium has been serving as home to the Independence Bowl since 1976. Apart from this it has also hosted international competitions such as the Port City Classic from 2010 onwards and the Shreveport Classic since 1930. Moreover the venue also played host to football franchises namely Shreveport Steamer from World Football League, the Shreveport Pirates from Canadian Football League and Louisiana High School Athletic Association teams.
The Shreveport Stadium, also known as the Independence Stadium was inaugurated in 1925. Currently owned by the city of Shreveport, the stadium can accommodate as much as fifty three thousand attendees for one game. Over the years, the facility has undergone several renovations from 1930 to the most recent remodeling that took place in 2009. The latest renovation introduced a completely new section to the facility. This section provides expandable seats for up to ten thousand people. This year presents another edition of the popular Independence Bowl that has been holding annual events since 1976. Like before, the game is scheduled to take place at the Independence Stadium and those who are interested are invited to grab tickets.
The AdvoCare V100 Bowl, also known as Independence Bowl has been holding annual competitions since three decades now. Its named was changed from "Independence Bowl" to "AdvoCare 100 Independence Bowl" in 2009 when AdvoCare became the official sponsors. The initial format of the game hosted a game between the champion football team from the Southland Conference against an opponent at large. However in 1981 the format was changed and the organizers chose two at-large football teams to compete. This format stayed with the Independence Bowl till 1995 after which it was changed once again. Currently the annual competition presents two teams from the Southeastern Conference to compete. Apart from this if the Southeastern Conference doesn’t have enough eligible teams to compete; teams from the SEC, Mountain West and Big 12 are chosen.
Over the years teams from cities namely McNeese State, Louisiana Tech, Syracuse, Texas A&M, East Carolina, Air Force, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mississippi, Washington, Oregon, Southern Miss, Georgia, LSU, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Indiana have competed. 2012’s winners were the Ohio Bobcats who were able to defeat the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks with a score of 45-15. With the win the Bobcats were able to establish the record of winning the game with the greatest number of points scored. Players who have been able to establish individual records include Ja’Mar Toombs from Texas, A&M for "Most Rushing Attempts," Kevin Faulk from LSU for "Most Net Yards" and "Best Average Per Carry" and Tim Brown from Rutgers for "Most Passing Yard".
