The city of Toledo is in itself quite legendary and historical in baseball’s history as a sport and as a culture. It became the foremost city to have tried to create a baseball team that was made up of people from the two main race that inhabited America as well as the first city to have allowed African Americans to play baseball in professional teams.
This happened back in 1884 when the professional baseball team club at that time, a major league baseball team, became the first team to have African American players, the famous brothers Moses Fleetwood Walker and Welday Walker. Before being named as the Toledo Mud Hens, this minor league baseball team had existed shortly as the Toledo Maumees, the Black Pirates and the White Stockings. The team first played at the ArmoryPark after which it moved to the Swayne Filed until the 50s. In 1927, this amazing team won the spectacular AA title pennant and by the 50s the team was active in the world of football.
In 1953, the Toledo Mud Hens bagged the Association title, their second so far, in a match that attracted around three fifty thousand fans. This was an incredible number for any baseball match at that time in the US. This awesome minor league baseball team has as its mascots Muddy and Muddonna, a male and a female mascot. The name of the team as well as its logo are regarded as the Best Selling as well as the Most Popular in the entire history of the minor league baseball. This baseball club has won around three titles; the Governors Cup championships in 1967, in 2005 and in 2006.
