The latest season is going to be a very important one for the Hartford Yard Goats. After a more than decent campaign in 2016, they fell away a little last term. The Yard Goats will be keen to bounce back this season though and it will be very interesting to see if they manage to pull it off or not. Book your Hartford Yard Goats tickets and come support the side to victory.

Background

The Hartford Yard Goats were formally inducted in 2016 but they trace their roots back to the 60s. Between 1965 to 1969, the franchise used to be based in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and was the Boston Red Sox' Double-A affiliate during that time period.

The Pawtucket Red Sox however became a Triple-A side in the year 1973 and the Red Sox were left with no other option but to move their Double-A affiliates to the city of Bristol in Connecticut. The franchise was named the Bristol Red Sox and that team played at the Muzzy Field for a decade (1973-1982).

Early 1983 they moved to New Britain, which was just ten miles to the east of Bristol. As a result of that relocation, the name of the franchise was changed to New Britain Red Sox and it began to play its home games at the Beehive Field. The team went on to clinch a league title in 1983.

The name was changed to Rock Cats in the year 1997 but they remained in New Britain. The Rock Cats won a division title in 1998 and that was followed by a division and a league title double triumph in 2001.

Move to Hartford

The Rock Cats then made the move to Hartford in the year 2016 and were renamed Hartford Yard Goats. Their new home, the Dunkin' Donuts Park faced construction delays and because of that they had to play the entire season away from home. The issues with construction went to court as a law suit was initiated between the ballpark's developers, Centerplan and the city of Hartford. A mediation was agreed upon and Hartford brought in Whiting-Turner as the new developers. Construction recommenced in October of 2016 and the ballpark was completed in time for the Yard Goats home opener the next season.

They ended their first season in Hartford with a 74-67 record which was good enough for a sixth place finish. Considering the fact they had to spend the entire season away from home it was a very decent showing.

In 2017, the Hartford Yard Goats posted a 62-77 record which landed them at the tenth spot on the table at the end of the season. They know they will have to improve on that showing this term.

The Ballpark

The Dunkin' Donuts Park can play host to 6,850 fans at a time. Tickets for the Yard Goats' first ever game at the ballpark on April 13, 2017 were sold out in just half an hour after they went on sale for the general public.

The Dunkin' Donuts Park will also see the UConn Baseball play four home games at the ballpark in the year 2018. They will also make one more appearance at the venue as guests. On top of that, the Cape Cod Baseball League will come to the ballpark to play its first game in Connecticut. That clash will take place on July 24, 2018 and the teams featuring will be the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and the Wareham Gatemen.

If you want to see them in action live this season, check the Hartford Yard Goats schedule first and get your tickets at the earliest. The Yard Goats are looking forward to make this year count and fan support is likely to get them through to the end.
