Hamilton Tiger Cats Tickets

Date & Time

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats play American football in the Canadian Football League. They are members of the East Division and play alongside three other teams in this division. The team was formed in 1950 after two teams, the Hamilton Tigers and the Hamilton Wildcats, merged together. They named themselves the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The team has since then won eight Grey Cups which ranks them at the fourth place in the CFL, in the list of teams with the most Grey Cups. The Tiger-Cats or the Ticats were also the first team to beat a current NFL team, namely the Buffalo Bills in the sixties. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats officially started their career in 1950. They immediately met with a lot of success, appearing in ten Grey Cups and managing to win six out of them. Between 1950 and 1972 they topped their East division thirteen times.   Some notable players to stand out during this time period were Bernie Faloney, Angelo Mosca and Joe Zuger. Except for two finals between 1957 and 1967, the Tiger-Cats ensured their presence in every national final. The only time they didn’t appear in the final was in 1960 and 1966. From these appearances they went on to lift four cups, once in the fifties and three times in the sixties. This era of dominance is referred to as the Steel Town Dynasty in the Canadian Football League. The 2015 season will see the Tiger-Cats bid for their third consecutive Grey Cup appearance. Chuck Ealey and Ian Sunter cemented themselves in Tiger-Cats history by ensuring the team won the 1972 Grey Cup. Faced with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Ticats had a tough task ahead of them. Ealey, playing as the quarterback, shouldered the responsibility of seeing his team through. His motivated performance throughout the season earned him the award for CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 1972. On the other hand Sunter and eighteen year old rookie, also played a crucial role in the teams win. When it mattered most, he booted the deciding field goal which gave the Tiger-Cats a thirteen to ten victory over the Roughriders.   Title Hiatus   In 1978 the Hamilton Tiger-Cats underwent a change in ownership and Harold Ballard became the new owner of the team. Ballard was very vocal about the expectations he had from the team. As a result the team reached the Grey Cup final in 1980 and ended up winning the East Division title in 1981.

The 1981 season was a terrific season for the Ticats which saw them win eleven games. However their smooth sailing throughout the season came to an abrupt end with the East Division final, when they played against the Ottawa Rough Riders. Although the Rough Riders were placed second in the division with only five wins, their defense proved almost impregnable in the game.

After this loss it wasn’t until six year after that the Tiger-Cats featured in an Eastern Final. They played against the Toronto Argonauts in the 1986 season for the Eastern title and defeated them to earn a place in the Grey Cup. The Tiger-Cats went up against the Edmonton Eskimos, competing for the Grey Cup. The Tiger-Cats secured a massive win with thirty nine points in reply for the Eskimos meagre fifteen and put an end to the title hiatus.
Tim Hortons Field   The Tiger-Cats play all their home games at the Tim Hortons Field’s which has a capacity of nearly twenty four thousand. The stadium boasts of one of the best videoboards, with high definition display and a twenty percent larger screen than the one installed at the Ivor Wynne Stadium.

Apart from this mega screen, there are plenty of high definition television monitors placed in stadium so that fans don’t miss out on any action. The Tim Horton’s Field has hosted many memorable events in the past which include concerts and notable sporting events. For major events such as the Grey Cup Championship, the capacity of the stadium is increased to accommodate more than thirty five thousand spectators.   One of the defining features of the Tim Horton’s Field is their immensely popular Legacy Wall. The Wall features the names of all season seat account holders for the historic first season at the stadium. Get Hamilton Tiger-Cats tickets and watch the footballing action as it happens.
