The Georgetown Hoyas are the many varsity teams that make up the athletics program of the Georgetown University. These amazing teams call the Big East which is a Conference within the NCAA Division I home. The only exception to this is the football team which plays in a non-NCAA league, the rowing team which is part of EARC, an association of rowing college teams and the sailing team which is part of MAISA, a college sailing teams association. The Georgetown Hoyas are found within the NCAA Division I and at present, their director is Lee Reed. Georgetown University is in itself present in the political capital of the US, the city of Washington DC. There are twenty-three teams varsity sports teams; eleven of these are men’s teams, eleven of them are women’s teams whereas one of these teams is a co-ed team. The football teams play spectacular football at the Multi-Sport Field, the baseball teams bat ball at the Verizon Center and the soccer teams can be found at Kehoe Field. The official mascot of the Georgetown Hoyas is the popular Jack the Bulldog and the official colors are gray and blue. The Georgetown Hoyas is a nationally renowned athletics program with the teams in the program bagging a good number of titles, awards and honors. The best Georgetown Hoyas team by far is the men’s basketball team by virtue of winning an impressive number of championships, awards and honors. The sensational men’s basketball team is coached by head coach John Thompson III and the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team has managed to successful rank in the NCAA National Tournament Final Four five different times. This team has also won the NCAA National Championship once as well as the Big East Conference Championship a record seven times. Besides that, this awesome team has also bagged around seven different Big East Conference regular season titles.
The women’s basketball team has been invited to the NCAA Tournament three times, ranked in the Sweet Sixteen twice and invited to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament five times. The rowing team is also very distinguished; it is part of one of the greatest rowing leagues in America and been part of the Henley Royal Regatta as well as the Eastern Sprints as a lightweight and heavyweight team. Both the men’s and women’s teams have finished second in the US as the second best team in the US with their rowers taking part in the Olympics as representatives of the US. The lacrosse teams have also distinguished themselves wonderfully; the men’s team has reached the Final Four whereas the women’s team has reached the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championships finals twice, won a record six consecutive Big East Conference titles and qualified for the NCAA Tournament eight consecutive times. The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team has been ranked as one of the best in the nation by virtue of having won a good number of championships and its sailing team has been ranked first overall in the ICSA Sailing World College Rankings. Add this to an over the top lacrosse team and you have, to put it simply, one of the best athletic programs and college sports teams in the US.
