The Dallas Stars will be looking to stamp their authority on the NHL once again. They have made it to the playoffs in two of the last three seasons and have also won a division title during this time.

Formation

The NHL decided to expand and in 1967, the Minnesota North Stars joined five others teams as the newest members of the league. Things did not go according to the plan and the franchise was then bought by the owners of the Cleveland Barons in the year 1978.

Both franchises were merged together and continued to play as the Minnesota North Stars. Things began to look up for a while as they went all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1981. They were bought by new owners in 1990 and the Stars went to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1991.

The Dallas Stars

The franchise was then moved to Dallas in 1993 and named the Dallas Stars. They made it to the playoffs in each of the first two seasons and then won the division title in 1997.That was followed by a division and President Trophy double the next season.

1999 turned out to be a monumental year. That season the Dallas Stars went on to win the division title, the Presidents’ Trophy, the conference crown and most importantly the Stanley Cup.
