After joining as an expansion franchise in 1967, the team known as the Minnesota North Stars, was located in Bloomington, Minnesota. However, owing to a special concession given to the North Stars and the Cleveland Barons because of a financial crisis, the two clubs were merged to become one franchise in 1978. It was in 1993 that the Stars relocated to Dallas and ultimately became the Dallas Stars.
