Formerly known as the Franklin County Stadium, the Cooper Stadium played the role of Clippers’ home field ever since from 1977 up till 2008. The last the game that the team played at the Cooper Stadium was not only their last game but also most memorable one as they faced the sellout crowd of 16,777 members. That match also set the record of attracting the third largest amount of audience members in the history of the stadium. Originally the Columbus Clippers started their play as the affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates back in 1977. The team changed its affiliation almost after two years and from 1979 they were affiliated to the New York Yankees. Columbus Clippers kept their affiliation with the Yankees for a long period which lasted for almost 28 years, and after that they were affiliated with Washington Nationals for a brief amount of time which started from 2007 and lasted till 2008. Ever since September 18, 2008 Clippers have been affiliated with Cleveland Indians, and it is expected to remain that way thanks to a four year contract.
Ever since the team’s formation, Clippers have claimed the International League Championship and the Governor’s Cup on seven occasions, and more over they’ve appeared ten times in the championship series. The first championship title came to the team in 1979 after they defeated Syracuse, and that victory was followed by two more consecutive championship wins in 1980 and 1981. The next championship title came to the team almost after six years when the team triumphed over Tidewater in 1987. Another consecutive two wins streak started in 1991 when the Clippers defeated Pawtucket which was followed by a victory over Wilkes Barre Red Barons in the next year. The most recent championship win came to the Clippers back in 1996 when the Rochester was overrun by the Clippers on the baseball field.
