Colorado Mammoth is considered one of the best teams to play lacrosse.
Colorado Mammoth was initially established as ‘Baltimore Thunder’ in 1987 with their base in Baltimore, Maryland. Under this name, they won the very first Lacrosse League Championship which was then known as Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League championship in their premier year. In 1991, they also won a division title. In 1999, their run as Baltimore Thunder came to an end as the franchise relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their name was changed to the ‘Pittsburgh Crossfire’. Under this new name, they only played for a year, which is the season of 2000, before once again moving to a new location in the year 2001. This time they moved to Washington and were named the ‘Washington Power’. They did not see much popularity and their games had low attendance. So in 2003, the franchise relocated to Denver for the last time and became the Mammoth.
Colorado proved to be lucky for the club as the Colorado Mammoth experienced greater success. In 2004, they had the best league attendance record. They also became the Division champion. They surpassed this performance two years later. In 2006, they went a step ahead and won their very first league championship title. Their final match against the Buffalo Bandits of New York was attended by more than a million lacrosse fans. In 2008, the Mammoth games recorded the highest average attendance in a game at the Pepsi Center, beating other prominent residents of the center like the Denver Nuggets of NBA and Colorado Avalanche of NHL.
The reason for the huge fan following of the Colorado Mammoth is the fact that they have the most talented and dashing players in lacrosse today. The captain of the team, Gavin Prout, is a favorite among the crowd. Then there is John Grant Jr. who is one of the most talented attackers in the business. Other star players in the club are the defensemen John Gallant, Matt Levengue and Jarrett Park and the goaltender Chris Levis.
Colorado Mammoth lost the division semifinals in the season of 2011. However, the hopes for their reaching the finals are high in 2012. With such great players, the team is bound to rise and shine. Watch them achieve another milestone this season with your Colorado Mammoth tickets!
